What's consistent.org about?

As you may have guessed, consistent.org is mine, at least in the sense that I pay the yearly bill to register the domain and the machine serving you this web page sits under my desk.

For several years the main page noted that the majority of the content intended to be there was not yet present, and this page existed to be some sort of explanation of my objectives and what was coming. However, as there is now a significant amount of content present, I think it speaks for itself and explanation is no longer required or useful.

However, consistent.org is an entire domain and not just a web site, so I'll say a bit about the rest of it here:

consistent.org machines

There are other things at consistent.org besides a web server, of course. Here are some of the machines, with a brief explanation of the motivation behind their names:
you-are-going-to-die.consistent.org
This machine is the oldest, and was previously you-are-going-to-die.mit.edu when I lived in a dorm at MIT. It's my primary email and web server. "You Are Going To Die" is a simple statement of fact, but it gets weird reactions because a lot of people don't understand what I mean by it. The most accessible explanation is probably the one in David Gerrold's books, although it must be taken somewhat critically as he perverts the conclusions badly.
failure-is-unacceptable.consistent.org (gone)
My previous workstation. Named after a tautology, but an interesting one in that it says something about the point of view from which it is a tautology. Fate seems to have an ironic sense of humor, because there were several severe hardware failures on this machine.
there-are-many-things.consistent.org
This is the name that failure-is-unacceptable acquired when its motherboard was replaced. It's been much more reliable since. The name is reference to the assertion that things exist and have properties, a significant claim with numerous consequences.
this-statement-is-false.consistent.org
Traditional philosophers have devised whole systems of truth to explain this statement, and I am thoroughly unimpressed with them. I look at it as a very short and direct koan.
foucault.consistent.org
A laptop. Named after Michel Foucault. Perhaps my next laptop will be called Derrida.
the-void-cannot-be-named.consistent.org
This machine is a "virtual colocation" machine on the other side of the country. It serves things and you can log into it, but it doesn't actually exist.

consistent.org network

consistent.org gets its network connectivity from Lightband Communications, a company I can unequivocally recommend. They charge double what the competition does for DSL, and it's worth every penny. When you call them up at 2 in the morning with a problem, they answer the phone and know what they're talking about.

consistent.org hosting

I also obtain some hosting services from PDX Colo, another service I recommend if you're looking for the sort of thing they provide. They're still a bit disorganized on the administrative side, but they're very helpful, and the service has been quite reliable.
