Livejournal Integration Problems

The syndicated feed seems to be working fairly well.

What is not working well is the OpenID account I use to read other people's posts, and the problem is with comments on LJ's end. Livejournal, presumably due to technical limitations, counts all OpenID users as "anonymous" for the purposes of allowing comments. Thus, even if you have added me as a friend, I cannot comment on your livejournal, even when logged in, unless you also allow anonymous comments, which obviously many people do not want to do. LJ talks about this here, but it's really just confirmation that in fact it doesn't work, and they might or might not ever fix it. Thus, I probably shan't be commenting on many of your livejournals in the future, because I am unable to do so.

To add insult to injury, syndicated external feeds are configured to allow comments from LJ users only, and cannot be reconfigured. Thus, I cannot reply to comments on my own posts using the LJ interface. My apologies to the people who commented on the previous entry - I led you astray by suggesting that doing so would be useful. I suppose I had better get around to implementing my own comment mechanism sooner rather than later.

In response to the previous comments... T: Cthulhu I can deal with, but that's too scary for me. You and Mister Huggles can do that, and I'll be in the next room over quietly gibbering to myself. R: If you're personally interested, I'd love to talk to you about it, but if it's not your thing, no need to hunt down third parties.
